What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Can my movers disconnect my gas? No, movers are not licensed to disconnect gas so you will have to hire another professional to perform this service.
What is an international move? This is a move where your items must cross an international boundary, regardless of actual distance.
What are the options for coverage of any lost or damaged items during transit? You can choose your type and level of protection from the following: cash value liability, full replacement liability or weight based liability.
What should I do with essential items I need on my moving day? We recommend that you transport any essentials such as bed linens, towels, toilet paper, cosmetics, toiletries and medication in your own vehicle. If this isn’t possible, clearly mark these boxes and make sure your movers place them in a specific place at your destination.
What are some examples of “extraordinary value” items? Although the list will differ for each person, your crystal, furs, jewelry, china, silverware, art or coin collections, crystal, antiques, precious stones and Oriental rugs will often fall under this category.
Do I have to tip movers? Tips are certainly not mandatory. However, you may want to consider tipping your movers and packers for the service they provide, depending on their quality and professionalism. If employees have gone above and beyond their job, they will certainly appreciate being rewarded for a job well done.
Can my children watch the move? For safety reasons, we recommend that your children stay with friends or family on your moving day. If they have to be present, make sure they are carefully supervised at all times.
Can I leave my clothing in dresser or chest drawers? You can leave lightweight clothing such as blouses, lingerie, shirts and sweaters in drawers. However, don’t leave heavy items such as sheets, table linens or books in drawers because they damage the furniture. Also remove any valuable or fragile items before the move.
Can I pack and move some smaller items before the movers arrive? Yes, you should spend your time packing boxes and have friends and family members spend their time carrying the boxes to the moving truck.
What is third party service? This is a service contracted out to people other than the movers. It may include waterbed service, household cleaning or appliance servicing.
